Early Intervention
Your young child has been diagnosed with a disability. Your head is spinning. What does she need? How can you get it for him? Will it work?
Starting at birth, children with disabilities have a right to appropriate educational services. Services provided to those children from birth through the age at which they are eligible to start school (typically age 5 or 6) are known as “early intervention”. The earlier appropriate services start, the more likely it is that they will be effective.
In Pennsylvania, children from age 3 upward are primarily served by traditional educational agencies, (school districts and intermediate units) while younger children are served by a variety of different social service and developmental agencies, typically under contract with state or county government departments.
We can help you identify and get what your child needs from these agencies. In early intervention, perhaps more than anywhere else, the sooner the better.
